Dollar General Invests in Muskingum Co. Library
Dollar General is granting the Muskingum County Library system nearly $120,000 to invest in three new programs for local students.
The three programs focus primarily on the literacy of local fifth graders and high school students and these initiatives include ’21st Century Learners’, ‘Limitless Libraries’, and ‘Battle of the books’.
Assistant Director of Muskingum County Library System says:
"21st Century Learners is an exciting initiative where we will provide iPad minis with digital content to all the 5th graders at John McIntire Elementary. Limitless Libraries involves our delivering of resources high school students at Zanesville High School put on hold, deliver them to the high school and pick them up when they’re done. 22:30:22
‘Battle of the Books’ mimics a program the 2014 library of the year used where fifth grade students in all Zanesville City Schools form teams and read a set of books where later they will compete as they are quizzed on those books. Tom says this is a wonderful learning opportunity for students and the library.
"This allows us to outside of the general fund, to be able to pilot projects, learn from that experience, make the tweaks and lessons learned and then grow it throughout the county. What we really value is Dollar General investing in their communities and allowing us the ability to incubate, innovate, evaluate then sustain and grow some of these innovations outside of the scope of our library budget for operations."
Tom looks forward to seeing how these programs play out this year in hopes they can continue for years to come.
