Drug Take Back Site at Riesbeck’s South

Riesbeck’s is joining the Sheriff’s Office in their mission to rid homes of unused and expired medication this Saturday.

The South Zanesville store will host a ‘Drug Take Back’ location. Those with meds to dispose of can drop off pills and patches. Muskingum County Sheriff Matt Lutz said it’s important to dispose of medications for health and safety.

“It’s a very important service for our community because there’s no proper way to get rid of medication,” said Lutz. “It’s not something you want to leave laying around your house. If it falls in the wrong hands via, you know we’ve had break-ins residences trying to find drugs, they try to sell those old drugs… so it’s just not something you want to be leaving around. Kids can get into it so it’s good to get that out of your home. ”

Riesbeck’s is excited to offer the drop off site for the local community. Store Events Coordinator Jane Dombroski said they see importance of proper disposal and want to help people take the right steps in the discarding of unused medications.

“We have been doing this for many many years and we just feel it’s important to get those unwanted or unused drugs off the streets and disposed of in the proper manner,” said Dombroski. “Not down your toilet, not in the garbage, but when the DEA [Drug Enforcement Administration] can come in and they can take and dispose of them properly. ”

The take back site will be open this Saturday from 10 a.m. until 2 p.m. If you can’t make it to Riesbecks you can also drop medication off at the Zanesville Muskingum County Health Department. That site will also accept sharps, liquids, and bottles.
