Northern Zanesville Seeing Spike in Car Break-ins
A slew of car break-ins has residents and law enforcement concerned.
The Zanesville Police Department is investigating numerous break-ins in neighborhoods on the north side of town. In fact, around 20 car break ins were reported in that area just Tuesday. Captain Tony Coury said they currently do not have a suspect, but the crimes appear to be carried out by a group of people.
“They’re getting in, looking for anything they can, primarily it looks like they’re trying to find open cars, cars that are left unlocked, and right now there’s a rash of them in the north end of Zanesville, they’re hitting neighborhoods off of Dresden, Taylor, Bell,” Coury said.
Coury said ZPD is increasing patrols on the north side and recommends staying alert if you live in the area. The department encourages reporting anything that seems suspicious.
“We’re sending a warning out to everyone to get anything of value out of your car, if you have to leave your car unlocked, leave it unlocked, but take everything out, the people who are taking things do not know that the empty purse laying inside a car is actually empty,” Coury said.
If you’re a victim of one of these crimes, Coury said to call ZPD to file a report.
