International Day of Peace Week at OUZ

ZANESVILLE, Ohio – Fall Fest was in full swing Thursday afternoon at Ohio University Zanesville.
The Rotaract Club of OUZ provided food, music, and activities for students as they kick off their International Day of Peace Week activities. Random acts of kindness, and a Post-It note project was the focus of Thursday’s event.
Chris Shaw of the OUZ Rotaract Club, said they are handing out smiles, giving Post-It notes, and encouraging people to write positive thoughts to share with friends.
“Give it to a colleague or a stranger. It doesn’t matter. If you see someone who needs a smile, we want you to share that smile with them,†said Shaw.
Events will take place over the next couple of days on campus. A canned food drive and veteran’s appreciation day are some examples.
Virginia Ferrell, a student at OUZ, and a member of the Rotaract Club, said they provide community service activities around the year.
“We do canned food and local school supply drives. It’s a good club to get involved with as a student, because it provides networking opportunities and a way to give back to the community,†said Ferrell.
Fall Fest will conclude next week with the dedication of a peace tree and bench in honor of International Day of Peace.
