Bishop Fenwick Students Celebrating Catholic Schools Week

Students at Bishop Fenwick School are observing Catholic Schools Week in a special way.

National Catholic Schools Week is an annual celebration of Catholic education in the United States. Monday marked day one of the week-long event, and to kick off the occasion, students took time out of their busy schedules to make “thank you” cards for our local emergency personnel, recognizing them for their service.

“Today is service day, so they are making cards to send out to our local firefighters and policemen, so they understand and know that we appreciate what they do for us,” said Dean of Students, Susan Swackhammer.

The school is also doing its part to give back to the community. Students brought in a variety of different items, from shampoo bottles to tissue boxes, to distribute to local homeless shelters. To cap off the week, Bishop Fenwick will unite with Rosecrans and other area schools for an honorary mass on Friday.

“Tomorrow we’re doing multiplicity day, where you try to get a bunch of people to dress the same,” said student, Will Bernath. “It’s to symbolize how we’re united as a group.”

Swackhammer said Catholic Schools Week is a time to focus on the value a Catholic education provides.
