ZANESVILLE, Ohio – the Zanesville Community Theater put on their presentation of ‘Quilters’ in front of a sold out crowd Sunday afternoon.

‘Quilters’ is a musical that shows the lives of women at the turn of the last century and their struggles as they moved west. Rebecca Wagstaff made her directing debut for the musical and said it was a unique show.

“It’s kind of a historical piece. Women moving west and their lives as told by blocks in a quilt. Each part of their life, the tragedies and the joys. And it all comes together at the end with a fabulous big legacy quilt,” said Wagstaff.

The show has and onstage band that includes WHIZ meteorologist Phil Sakal. There are nine actresses in the show who each play multiple roles. Wagstaff said she was nervous about her directing debut until she saw how well the show went.

“These are our fore-mothers,” said Wagstaff. “These are the women that settled this area and west of here. I’m so proud of the cast, and the musicians, and the production team, and the technical lighting is fabulous.”

The show will run this week on Friday, Saturday, and a Sunday matinee as well. Tickets are still available.
