Cruise Along the National Road

The brilliant colors of fall foliage can be seen all across the area, making this season the perfect time for a scenic drive.

The historic National Road in Ohio is considered part of the road that helped build America. The Ohio National Road Association is hosting its first ever “Nostalgic Autumn Ohio National Road Poker Run” for the community take a ride down Scenic Route 40, while giving back to a good cause. This Saturday, riders will take off at the Angry Bull Saloon on Linden Avenue in Zanesville, and then take a 30-mile journey through history.

“The Poker Run is an effort to fund-raise, so you make some stops along a given route and at the end, we will have a live auction, as well as a 50/50 drawing, there is an entry fee, and half of that entry fee will go to the best hand of the hand of the poker cards that are drawn,” said ONRA President, Mary Ellen Weingartner.

The event is $10 per person and $15 per couple. All stops are to be announced at sign-up, but riders are expected to cruise through Buckeye Lake, in an effort to support local businesses who may be suffering. The road trip will conclude at Mill Dam in Hebron.

“There will be food all along, every stop will have some kind of snack food, so it will be a fun time, we have this wonderful weather for a fall event, the colors are just gorgeous at this time,” Weingartner said.

The event is this Saturday and sign-ups are from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. at the Angry Bull Saloon. All proceeds benefit the Ohio National Road Association. Antique vehicles and motorcycles are encouraged.
