Man Charged For Possessing Pipe Bombs
A local man has been arrested on charges of unlawful possession of explosives.
Captain Tony Coury of the Zanesville Police Department said 40-year-old Anthony Osborn of Blue Rock was arrested early Monday morning following a traffic stop, where an officer found four crude pipe bombs with fuses in the back seat of the vehicle. Coury said Osborn was pulled over on Luck Avenue in Zanesville for improper use of a turn signal, leading to a search after the officer spotted drug paraphernalia. The officer uncovered a small amount of marijuana, along with the bombs. Osborn has been charged with four counts of illegal manufacturing and processing of explosives and unlawful possession of a dangerous ordnance.
“Monday morning the Zanesville detectives picked up the case, and during their investigation they made contact with the fire department and then the Columbus Bomb Squad, and then once the bomb squad arrived, they determined that they needed to detonated,” Coury said.
Coury said Osborn told police he wasn’t planning on doing any physical harm to humans with the bombs. Due to previous arrests, Osborn is not permitted to own a firearm, so he claims that’s why he constructed the explosives. He is currently being held in the Zanesville City Jail and is scheduled to be arraigned later this week.
