Man drives into church then flees scene

ZANESVILLE, Ohio – Zanesville Police are on the lookout for a man who crashed a car into St. Nicholas Church’s garage and then fled.
It happened around 7 a.m. Wednesday morning when a driver was heading west on East Main Street. After he passed a school bus ZPD received calls of an erratic driver in the Bishop Fenwick school zone.
The man then drove off the right side of the road and into a garage behind the church and then ran. Capt. Tony Coury with the Zanesville Police Department said he is still on the loose.
“We were told that a white male wearing a white shirt ran north bound, through the parking lot and left the scene without any report,†said Capt. Coury.
There was nobody in the garage at the time of the crash. The car was registered to a home in Perry County. Capt. Coury said the Perry County Sheriff’s Office has been notified and they are working to find the owner of the vehicle.
Capt. Coury said the driver was believed to be the only person in the car at the time of the crash. He is still on the run and possibly injured.
“He may have not had his seat belt on. Maybe hit his head on the windshield or inside of the car. He may be bleeding. So we’ll follow up with the local hospital and see if we can find anything there,†said Capt. Coury.
