Norwich, Ohio–  This week is national preparedness week and the Red Cross wants to make sure that you’re prepared for the upcoming winter season.

The American Red Cross of Southeast Ohio works day by day to help people be prepared for any type of situation regardless of the season.

With Thursday being the first day of fall, Marlene Henderson, Executive Director at The American Red Cross of Southeast Ohio said that it’s never too early to be prepared for the winter months.

“Somethings that you can have in your house to help with preparedness through the winter months is to make sure you have plenty of blankets available in case of power outages.  You’ll want to make sure that you have plenty of foods available if the power goes out.”

Henderson said that it’s also very important that you replace your batteries in your smoke alarms and if your smoke alarms are older than 10 years, then you need to replace them.

“If you don’t have a working smoke alarm you can call us and we’ll put you on the list.  We come out and install up to three free smoke alarms in everyone’s home.”
