ZANESVILLE, Ohio – The final day of International Day of Peace celebrations took place this morning on Ohio University Zanesville’s campus.

For the past week, student’s were tasked with performing random acts of kindness around campus to promote peace. Members of the Zanesville Rotary and OUZ Rotaract Club attended the dedication of a peace bench and tree.

Former President of the Zanesville Rotary Club, Mary Shackelford, said that they are focusing on hunger today.

“During the walk, we are asking people to bring non-perishable food items, and we are going to dedicate them to Christ’s Table,” said Shackelford.

The Rotaract Club was pleased with how the week of events turned out. Several other local schools partnered with the Daybreak Rotary Club, and held activities throughout the week.

“Rotary has six areas of focus, and peace and conflict resolution are our areas of focus. So as a rotary group, internationally and post locally, we want to do our part to bring peace to our community,” said Shackelford.

The ceremony concluded with a proclamation for International Day of Peace, followed by a walk.
