MVHC Opens New Pharmacy
Muskingum Valley Health Centers is taking patient care to the next level.
This week, MVHC opened it’s first on-site pharmacy at the Muskingum County location. CEO, Dan Atkinson, said MVHC takes pride in enhancing the level of service available to patients, and by opening a pharmacy, the primary care facility is doing just that. The pharmacy is owned by MVHC, but operated by a highly skilled staff of Northside pharmacists.
“We decided to open up a pharmacy to continue to serve our patients better, we want to make sure that we make the make the healthcare experience for them as convenient as possible, this is a patient centered medical home, and we’re aimed to making sure everything we do is around the patient and around their convenience,” Atkinson said.
Pharmacy hours mirror the MVHC’s hours of operation, and is open Monday through Friday from 7:30 a.m. until 7 p.m. The pharmacy will provide a variety of services to patients, including direct access to a pharmacist or technician to better understand and manage prescriptions. This new luxury isn’t just for MVHC patients. Manager, Amanda Wheeler, told us the pharmacy can fill prescriptions for anyone in the community.
“We’ll also be offering immunizations and medication therapy management,” Wheeler said. “I think it’s really exciting that patients can see their provider here, and then we can be part of that team, and we can provide even further counseling for their medications.”
Currently, MVHC healthcare providers write nearly 15,000 prescriptions per month that are filled between seven partner pharmacies across the region.
