Fall Youth Day Celebrates Nature

The Muskingum Valley Park District’s “Fall Youth Day” brought children together outside of the classroom to learn about something a little different.

Held at the beautiful grounds of Mission Oaks Gardens, Saturday’s festivities were all centered around nature. Staff member, Angel Mack, said the goal of the event is to instill the importance and benefits of nature to the younger generation.

“Some of these kids may be our future farmers, growers, gardeners, I think it’s very important that the kids know these things,” Mack said.

Educational stations with hand-made crafts filled the garden grounds. Kids got the chance to identify fish swimming in the pond, make nature collages from resources gathered in the park, and assemble fall bouquets from native plants.

“We’re doing the scavenger hunt, that’s really fun,” said John McIntire Elementary students, Dasia Grandstaff and Hanna Penny. “There’s a pumpkin roll, and there’s leave coloring, it’s really fun.”

After Saturday’s success, Mack told us they hope to continue the event in the future.
