19th Annual SOUPer Bowl
The 19th annual SOUPer Bowl kicked off Sunday afternoon.
Each year the fundraiser benefits non-profits that provide food to the hungry everyday including Eastside Community Ministry, The Salvation Army, Christ’s Table, The Muskingum County Senior Center and Fellowship of Christ’s Community. Due to its success and the way it continues to grow each year, the fundraiser needed a bigger venue and took place at the OUZ campus. This year they plan to serve 1,200 people.
“The other part of it that is wonderful is we have people from all these churches. We have 23 churches that volunteer and we have other churches that also come here. We have scouts, school groups and they all come and I think they enjoy it and that’s what makes it fun for everyone” said Co-Founder of the SOUPer Bowl, David Klein.
Tickets for a meal cost just $6 and included soup, a sloppy joe or hot dog, a drink and a cookie. There was a bake sale as well and the event concluded with a chinese auction. There was a little bit of something for everyone today, Klein said. We asked him why he loves to do this each year:
“We have a lot of needs in the community and so many problems and so many people who don’t have enough and we think this is a good way to help those people.”
100 gallons of soup were used today and even talk of next years SOUPer Bowl has already begun.
