ZANESVILLE, Ohio – At OUZ’s Campus Center the Animal Shelter Society held their yearly fundraiser.

All money donated from the fundraiser goes towards the Animal Shelter Society’s general fund. Executive Director Jody Murray said the Shelter would not be able to run without the support of the community.

“The community has really come together to support the shelter tonight. It’s going really well. We are having a good night and we hope the evening auction goes really well,” said Murray.

The event features a dinner and auction with items from local artists and sports memorabilia. Murray said last year the Shelter took in 2,500 animals, which makes events like this so important.

“This has been going on for a lot of years for the Shelter. It has grown every year. We’re at about 285 people this year. It’s the one time of the year that the community really comes out and supports the Shelter. The Shelter has been around for over 50 years and all those years we have been supported by the community,” said Murray.

Murray said this year’s attendance was the highest ever.
