The Muskingum County Library System is giving trick-or-treaters books in New Concord

NEW CONCORD, Ohio – Children who attend New Concord’s Trail of Treats on Halloween can expect to find more than candy. They can also take home a scary good book.
The New Concord Branch of the Muskingum County Library System (MCLS) will be at the Trail of Treats behind New Concord Village Hall from 5-6 p.m. Trick-or-Treaters who stop by their station will be offered a free children’s book, made possible through the Friends of the Muskingum County Library and MCLS.
“As a treat, we want to surprise them with literacy instead of all the candy they’ll be receiving otherwise. So that is our gift to each of them,” said Scott Glover, the branch service manager for the New Concord library branch. “So, I think it’s just a great community event for everyone to be able to come out in a safe environment and bring their kids out in the costumes so everyone can just have a great family time together.”
Many local business and organizations will be taking part in the trail of treats alongside the library and if you’d like to join them, you can reach out through New Concord Board of Trade’s website. If you’re hoping to have more than an hour of Halloween fun, the library doors will be open for a costume party, pumpkin decorating and more.
“We will have some activities, here at the library, prior to that. We’re going to be doing a special movie. That’ll be 3 to 5 p.m. so everyone can stop by, get their costumes ready. Of course, we have restrooms available for everyone, which is important as their out trick-or-treating. So, lots of fun stuff going on in the community that day,” Glover said.
According to the New Concord Board of Trade’s website, they expect around 300 children to participate in Saturday’s Trail of Treats. You can see what other Muskingum County Library System branches have planned for the holiday by visiting their website.
