ZANESVILLE, Ohio – Newton Township’s Fire Department held their yearly chicken dinner Sunday afternoon.
Besides serving up more than 1,000 chicken dinners, the Fire Department also hosted a car show. Fire Chief Allen Deaver said this year the car show held special meaning for everyone involved.
“This year was different because of Rob Miracle. Rob was, as everyone knows, tragically killed on his motorcycle in Kentucky. So we wanted to do something special for his family. All of the proceeds from the car show are going to go to help Rob’s family out,†said Chief Deaver.
The tradition of the chicken dinner dates back to 1983 with the White Cottage Community Day. This year they sold out of all of their chickens and Chief Deaver said a car show was appropriate to honor Miracle, given his love of cars.
“The accident with Rob happened as we were setting up the car show. And we got together and decided this would be the right thing to do. He was about cars, people, and motorcycles so we thought it would be appropriate to dedicate it to him,†said Chief Deaver.
Deaver said they rose close to $1,000 to donate to the Miracle family.
