Legendary Sheridan Coach Announces Retirement

Paul Culver Jr.’s name has been synonymous with MVL football for more than 30 years, but following last night’s triple-overtime win at New Lex, Culver had an announcement to make.

The hall of famer told his team that he’s retiring.

Culver’s accolades cannot be overstated. He’s racked up 324 career wins, including a laundry list of accomplishments with the Generals: 15 MVL titles, 17 playoff appearances, two state final four trips and a state runner-up finish in 1987.

“When you think about Sheridan football, that’s the name you’re going to think about forever,” Sheridan athletic director Lance Dupler said. “When he announced (his retirement), you’re happy for him and his family for all of the time that they’ve put in, the amount of hours that they’ve sacrificed to give to Sheridan High School and Sheridan football. You just can’t put that into words.”

Culver’s Generals finished the season with a 7-3 record.
