17th Annual Perry County Back to School Bash

NEW LEXINGTON, OH – Over 1,000 children in Perry County got ready to get back into the class room this week.

The Perry County Job and Family Services hosted their 17th annual Back to School bash on August 5th at the Perry County Fairgrounds and organizers say the event just gets bigger and better every year.

Amy Frame, the Director of the Perry County JFS, says their goal is to keep this event going for as long as they can for every child that needs it.

“I think it means everything to the kids walking through these doors, it’s giving every kid the opportunity to be ready, to step in, to learn in their classrooms and feel very confident and secure.” Frame said. “So it’s just so important that we keep this event going.”

Volunteers ushered kids and their families through a line where they picked up a bag full of supplies, got fitted for shoes, got a hair cut if they were registered to, and even picked out some new clothes for the first day back.

Once they were set with their clothes and supplies the fun began; families had the chance to meet with different organizations in Perry County, grab a snack, and have some fun at the different activity stations.

Chase Bennett, a Perry County Commissioner, says this is now his 3rd helping out with the event and it’s amazing to see the impact it has on the kids involved.

“I think it’s huge for our community, for the entire county.” Bennett said. “Amy and her team do a great job of getting our County top to bottom. For my role, I’m just here for the shoes, I love working with the kids and passing shoes out. This is only my 3rd year, I’m one of the newest Commissioners, but their team does such a great job and I just love to support them.”

Frame says plans are already in motion for next year when they will host the 18th Annual Back to School Bash.
