ZANESVILLE, Ohio - The ‘You Will Rise Project’ is holding a special event for kids with Autism at the CASS-MIND Learning Center this weekend.

The program helps Autistic kids to rise above bullying. Bullying has become a widespread problem around the world. Whether it is online or in school, it affects so many children. This weekend they hope to teach the kids to channel their angst and hurt into art.

CEO of CASS-MIND, Dr. Cassandra McDonald, says the project addresses bullying and children that have been cyber bullied through different social media. We want to raise their self-efficacy, and their self value.

Dr. McDonald has partnered with Linda Regula, the creator of the program. She has set up a hands-on workshop for the kids this weekend.

They will work on eight different projects from painting, to putting old computer parts together, to making collages. Regula noticed a difference in the kids almost right away.

“Look at them. They’re calm and peaceful. I’ve never seen that cause you know that they are very active and very moving. If you look, they’re just moving from project to project very calmly,” said Regula.

The program will still register kids to attend the workshop on Saturday. A final art display will be open to the public this Sunday from 3:30-5:30.
