54th Annual Bonanza of Bands

2016.10.01 Bonanza Of Bands 1

ZANESVILLE, OHIO- The Bonanza of Bands is the longest running marching band program in the state of Ohio.

Featuring bands from 17 different high schools from across the state.  Kelley Ryan, Zanesville High School Band Director, said that bands range is sizes of 22 members to 180 members.

“A lot of them are doing music that we might be familiar with and some of them have original music that they composed just for the show that they are doing,” said Ryan.

Ryan said that each band is performing in hopes of receiving a “Superior Rating”, which then qualifies them for the state competition during the end of the month and the beginning of November.

The bands are graded on a 1 to 5 scale with 1 being the best and 5 being the worst.

“We have ten judges checking out areas of music, marching, general effect and then we have judges to just watch the auxiliary units and the percussion.”

Ryan said that these events take a lot of planning and work to be successful and he would like to thank the community of Zanesville for how supportive they have been over the years.
