Area Sophomores Tour Mid-East
Students from area high schools are exploring opportunities at Mid-East Career and Technology Centers this week, as part of “The Sophomore Experience.”
Nearly 1,700 sophomores from Muskingum, Perry, Guernsey and Noble counties are being exposed to a variety of different career fields, from cosmetology to carpentry, in hopes of finding one that piques their specific interest. Public information coordinator for Mid-East, Stacey Snider, said students were able to choose four different programs to explore during the field trip.
“They get to touch, see, feel, and do, they get to make things, they get to use the tools, they really get a feel for what it’s like, so if somebody’s on the fence about coming here or not, or if they know they like two different programs, it’s a good chance for them to see which one is best for them,” Snider said.
There are 22 career and technology programs offered at the Zanesville campus for area high school juniors and seniors interested in a career trade. Senior at Mid-East, Seth Hayes, participated in “The Sophomore Experience” when he was a student at Tri-Valley and said the trip highly influenced his decision to make the switch.
“I thought it was a great decision, the people here, the administration, the teachers, they’re all nice, and the labs are fantastic,” Hayes said.
The ‘experience’ concludes Friday at Mid-East’s Zanesville campus.
