ZANESVILLE, Ohio – Today a Muskingum County woman celebrated her 100th birthday among family and friends in Avondale.

Grace Hashman was born Oct. 7, 1916 and recently moved to Ohio after living most of her life in West Virginia. She has lived through 17 different US presidents and has had over 80 grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

Hashman gives us the key to getting to the century mark.

“I guess it would be hard work. But I didn’t think it was hard work,” said Hashman.

Hashman had her own garden that she worked in until she turned 97. She worked in a restaurant, and as a foster grandparent, and she loves to cook. She said being 100-and-one-day old doesn’t feel much different than being 99.

“Oh, it’s the same,” said Hashman laughing.

Hashman expressed how happy she was to get to spend the day with family and friends.
