Highway Patrol Expect Congestion on Highways

ZANESVILLE, Ohio- The holiday season is upon us. Gas prices are the lowest they’ve been in years, which means travelers are more likely to drive to their destination.

The Zanesville Post of the Ohio State Highway Patrol is anticipating congestion on major roads like Interstate 70. They suggest travelers pack patience along side their favorite Thanksgiving treats.

“Maybe if it normally takes them 20 minutes to get somewhere, don’t expect that will take you only 20 minutes to get there. The interstate will be just flooded with traffic from Wednesday to probably Sunday ” said Lieutenant Matt Boyd.

The troopers are gearing up for the influx of travelers and traffic heading our way. Boyd said there will be three troopers and one supervisor per shift to ensure the safety of all drivers. Boyd also mentioned what troopers look for when issuing a citation.

“If they are driving over the speed limit, driving reckless, making unsafe maneuvers, not wearing a seat belt expect to get a citation from us, because we will do whatever we can to keep the motoring public safe,” Boyd said.

Keep in mind Thanksgiving is the most traveled holiday period of the year. Boyd said to be cautious and careful, as you drive to your destination
