Community Comes Together for 8th Annual Race for Grace

Thanksgiving may be the most popular day of the year for feasting, but it’s also a big day for races and events.

Grace United Methodist Church’s 8th annual “Race for Grace 5K” attracted nearly 200 participants this year. Both runners and walkers alike made their way to the finish line this morning, before heading to the dinner table for the big meal. For those eager to give back this holiday, the race was the perfect opportunity to help the less fortunate.

“We raise money for Eastside food pantry,” said director, Becky Woods. “The first year we did it for the church, but then after that it’s always been for Eastside.”

Racers flooded the streets of downtown Zanesville in a tradition that keeps growing each year. Since its beginning, the event has raised nearly $20,000 for Eastside. This year, Woods said they hope to bring in $3,000 more.

“I’m excited that we can give money to the community, there are so many people that aren’t as blessed as others, and it’s a great opportunity to give to those that are in need,” Woods said.

The church is still accepting online donations for Eastside’s food pantry. For more information, visit graceumcz.org.
