Deer Gun Season Opens Today

Ohio’s popular week long deer gun season opens Monday.

Ohio ranks fifth nationally in resident hunters and is 11th in the nation in the number of jobs associated with hunter related industries. Hunting has more than a $853(m) impact in Ohio through the sale of equipment, fuel, food, lodging and more.

The week long hunting season helps to properly manage Ohio’s deer populations. Until recently, populations in nearly all Ohio counties were well above the goal. But, in the last few years most counties are now at or near goal.

Last year over 65,000 deer were killed during the season.

Some rules to remember, hunters may harvest only one buck in Ohio regardless of method of take or location. Deer bag limits are determined by county and a hunter can not exceed a county bag limit. Hunting hours begin 30 minutes before sunrise and 30 minutes after sunset.

After this week long season deer-gun hunters will have another chance to head to the woods December 28-29.
