Zanesville Man Charged in Shooting on Liberty Street
A Zanesville man is facing charges in the shooting on Liberty St. near the Canteen Bar early Saturday morning.
Clarence E. Davis has been charged with three counts of Felonious Assault with a Firearm Specification and one count of Discharging at or into a Habitation with a Firearm Specification. The charges follow a shooting that wounded three people.
Zanesville Police Chief Kenneth Miller said officers were dispatched to the Canteen Bar just after 2 a.m. Saturday. As the investigation continues, he believes the shooting occurred outside the bar but the verbal altercation began at the establishment. It then moved outside to Liberty St. where Miller said Davis shot at a person involved in the argument. That person was not shot but three others were.
27 year old Jackory Sutton, 29 year old Shana Green, and 25 year old Trey Stevens were all transported in personal vehicles to Genesis Hospital. Miller said all were transported when police arrived on the scene. Green was treated for her gunshot wound and released, but Sutton and Stevens are still being treated at Genesis. Miller said Sutton is in the ICU after receiving surgery for a gunshot to the chest.
As the number of shootings seems to climb in the local area, Miller said the police department is doing their part to be proactive and prevent incidents like this one.
"[We] lust have to remain vigilant while out there working," said Miller. "We do try to be proactive as far as working some of the drug trade and different things and trying to locate people that have weapons on them."
Davis was named as a suspect and turned himself in to the authorities at 9 p.m. Saturday. He is currently being held at the Zanesville City Jail.
