The Muskingum Valley Educational Service Center Hosts Crisis Workshop

ZANESVILLE, Ohio- Muskingum and neighboring counties are educating their educators in what to do in case of a crisis.

The Muskingum Valley Educational Service Center hosted a two day workshop geared towards crisis intervention.

“Right now in the state of Ohio there is a requirement for all school districts to have written safety plans in place that meet guidelines from FEMA, Department of Homeland Security and Ohio Attorney General’s Office,” said Psychologist, Gail Gallwitz. “A lot of our school districts are going a very nice job. Trying to make sure they meet the letter of the law as far as requirements. But at the same time we need to have enough time to train our staff and our communities.”

Gallwitz said this workshop is to better prepare educators on how to act in crisis situations.

“I hope all of them feel a little bit more empowered,” said Gallwitz.”They know what questions to ask when they go back to their home school districts. They have some resources they can now study. To learn a little bit more about practices that are recommended. They also have some thoughts on how they can make their plans better or practices more effective going forward.”

Gallwitz said this workshop was a success.
