Zanesville City Schools Celebrates the Lack of Snow Delays

This has been one of the warmest January’s since 2008 and potentially the warmest winters ever. Now the Zanesville City School district is celebrating the lack of snow days used so far.

Superintendent Dr. Doug Baker said he’s happy to see less time spent at home for inclement weather and more time in the classroom keeping students on schedule.

“We’ve built in 5 days into the school calendar that well account for any inclement weather days that we may have. An addition to that we’ve also applied and received 3 blizzard back days where students can do assignments online or in blizzard bags at home for an additional 3 days. But hopefully we won’t have to use those. Right now we are in a lot better shape than we were last year. This time last year I think we already had 2 or 3 snow days and possibly a couple delays. This year we haven’t had anything. Hopefully the weather will hold up for us for the rest of the season,” said Dr. Baker.

Dr. Baker said it is will unclear if all five days will be needed this year. But, there is a plan in place for the unused days.

“It obviously depends on the weather and again those days are there not just for snow. In the past we had some days that extremely foggy and that could be a day you would use one of those days for. If those days weren’t used it will be used for additional instructional time. We want to have as much instructional time as possible,” said Dr. Baker.

School officials say they are confident in their emergency day plan.
