Local High School Students Become Role Models For Elementary Kids

A new program called Teen Trend-Setters is now taking place at Zanesville City schools. The program is an initiative of the already established Barbara Bush Foundation. The program involves high school students being mentors for kids in local elementary schools. This is the first year that the program is in full effect.

Steven Foreman, Director of Title 1 & Special Services at Zanesville City schools said that the students have been receiving training in being mentors to the elementary students and Monday was the first time that the kids got to meet their mentor’s.

Forman said that over a million dollars is going into after school programming for Zanesville City schools and this is a serious program that’s going to benefit younger kids both in and out of the classroom.

“At the end of the day when you look at all we are trying to accomplish here with the million dollars of after school programing, it wouldn’t be possible without our high school students jumping on board,” said Foreman.

With this being the first year of the program, it already has 50 plus high school students involved. Students will be spending a few hours after school on Mondays and Wednesday’s with their mentees working on homework and spending time with them.
