Putnam Hill Water Tank To Be Replaced

The city of Zanesville will work to replace the Putnam Hill water tank in the coming years.

Public Service and Community Development Director Jay Bennett said while there aren’t health concerns to the public, the tank is simply past its prime. There have been suggestions from the state of Ohio Environmental Protection Agency and support from City Council.

The city is applying for a grant from the Ohio Mid-Eastern Government Association for funding. Bennett said he’s confident the city will receive the $250,000 that was recommended after their pre-application process, which will help cover a portion of the 2.4 million dollar project. The city will continue to apply for grants and will be responsible for all other costs.

“The facility has long outlasted its useful life so I would rather spend the money rather than trying to rehab and bubble gum, paperclip if you will,” said Bennett. “I’d rather look at that investment for long term. ”

The new tank will hold 1 million gallons and construction will begin in 2017.
