Health department offers financial assistance for home sewage repair

ZANESVILLE, Ohio-Â The Zanesville-Muskingum County Health Department is offering financial assistance for failing sewage treatment systems.
The health department received funding from participation in a grant from the Ohio EPA’s water pollution control loan fund to repair failing sewage systems.
Matt Hemmer, registered sanitarian for the Health Department, said the county was awarded $200,000 in stimulus funding and there has only been about $70,000 used.
“A failing sewage system would consist of pipes that do not drain properly, either the toliet or the bath tub, it could be a wet spot in the yard or it could be the obvious black discharge of sewage at any point,” said Hemmer.
The funding is only available for another six months.
