ZANESVILLE, Ohio- Hundreds of trick-or-treaters gathered to the Colony Square Mall on Monday evening to get some candy, but to also donate food.

The United Way of Muskingum, Perry and Morgan Counties hosted a food drive at the mall to help raise non-perishable and canned food items for the Muskingum County Hunger Network.

Ben Raines, Ohio College Guide at the Muskingum County Community Foundation (MCCF) said they had a lot of trick-or-treaters come in and donate food Monday evening, but he said the mall has been collecting food all day.

Raines said that it’s amazing how many people the Muskingum County Food Network serves.

“Food insecurity is a big deal in Muskingum County and a lot of people don’t know where their next meal is coming from,” said Raines.  “It’s important for the community to step up and help those people who need assistance.”

The United Way of Muskingum, Perry and Morgan Counties will be hosting another fundraiser at Steak ‘N Shake at 914 Zane Street on November 9th from 11 a.m. to 9 p.m.  Steak ‘N Shake will donate 10% of each purchase to the United Way.
