Animal Shelter Society Pets of the Week: Meet Butterscotch & Butternut!

ZANESVILLE, OH – This Week’s Animal Shelter Society Pets of the Week are Pizza and Hotdog!
Wait a minute, that’s just their Halloween costumes! Meet Butterscotch and Butternut! They are 5-month-old red and blue, Australian cattle dog sisters who are spayed, up to date on their vaccinations and are trying to find their forever home together.
April Gibson, the Executive Director of the Shelter, says they are great pups with amazing dispositions on their own, but together is where they really thrive.
“We would really prefer them, my Animal Care Manager and I would really prefer that they go together, you know, they’re used to each other, they will be better pets, we feel that way.” Gibson said. “They’re going to need some room to run, but if you do have a home and no backyard, you have to make sure to let us know that you’re going to take them to the dog park. They’re still Heelers, they’re still working animals, working dogs, and so they have that naturally, you can’t take that out of them.”
Gibson also wanted to thank the community as well as the staff at a taste of Ohio Wine, Bourbon, and Beer for a great Inaugural Wicked Whiskers.
She says there were a lot of people that did not get the chance to come out for this round of Wicked Whiskers, so plans are already in motion for “Summer-Ween” happening on June 26, 2027.
Gibson also wanted to let the community know about an upcoming cat adoption special that ties into those beautiful fall leaves.
“Leaves are Falling, Cats are Calling, over 80 in our brick and mortar, 100% non-profit, I can’t stress that enough.” Gibson said. “For what we go through and all that we do, I’m so proud of our team as an adoptable no-kill, but that is going to be our special for felines, it’s going to be $20 is their adoption fee, keep in mind that includes their surgery, spay or neuter, up to date vaccines to their ages, microchipped, that all comes with our felines here.”
