80 Area Veterans were honored at Secrest Auditorium

ZANESVILLE, Ohio- Local veterans in Muskingum County were honored at Secrest Auditorium Friday.
It was part of the “We Honor Veterans” program. The Muskingum Chapter of Daughters of the American Revolution spearheaded the event that include many difference community groups.
“It’s not just the Daughters of the American Revolution,” Daughters of the American Revolution, Chairman, Mary Ann Devolld said. “There’s a committee of many people. People from Genesis Hospice, Zandex Health Care, the Muskingum Library System. Just several other people. This is the brain child of Becky Joseph, who retired from Genesis. She actually started it. I definitely want to give her credit.”
Area fifth graders also participated by writing essays or creating artworks saluting veterans.
“It’s important to educate our young people. That’s why fifth graders have been involved. When the community comes together that always means a lot. Especially around this time of year when we’re honoring veterans and when we’re getting ready for an election, it’s important that we take pride in being Americans.”
Around 80 veterans were honored on stage during the 2nd annual event.
