ZANESVILLE, Ohio- Residents in the community have been receiving unsolicited phone calls and mail.

The scam is claiming that voters have missing absentee ballots.

“We’re receiving a lot of phone calls from voters who are pretty upset,” said Timothy Thompson, Director of the Muskingum County Board of Elections. “They’ve been getting letters and phone calls saying that their absentee ballots have not been suntan or they haven’t been accepted.”

The Muskingum County Board of Elections clarified the miscommunication, though they have not identified the source of the fraud.

“It’s upsetting voters and so we just wanted to clarify that absentee ballots are being received in and they’re taken care of in a due manner,” said Thompson.

The last time to mail out an absentee ballots is noon on Saturday, November 5th. If you’re turning in your absentee ballot in person, they need to be delivered by 7:30 p.m. on Election Day.
