Retired Fire-Fighter is Honored for His Services
One retired fire fighter is honored after 6 decades of service to the community.
After 60 years of volunteering for the South Zanesville Fire Department, and 11 of those years serving as Chief, Ted Lazer decided to retire. Saturday Lazer along with 17 other volunteer fire fighters were celebrated for their services and dedication to the community. Chief Russell Taylor said this night is special because, Lazer is the longest serving fire-fighter in south Zanesville’s history.
"Ted, i’ve been on with him for 20 years and after 20 years if we run out of chicken and BBQ’s and he is there, first one in the door and last one to leave every year, said Chief Taylor. I just want him to enjoy his retirement. Don’t worry about that pager if it goes off. But, if he wants to come he is more than welcome to still come. Come down and fellowship with the guys anytime he wants. The house is always open for him to come."
Lazer joined the department in 1956, at the age of 21 as a regular firefighter, then moved up to Assistant Chief, and served as Chief of the department from 1978 to 1989. After serving as Chief, Lazer continued to work at the department until retiring at the beginning of January. Lazer told us what he’ll miss the most.
"Just going down, I still going down to the station and stuff. But, i’ll miss going to fires and and helping out i’ll miss that," said Ted Lazer.
Although Lazer is retired he still plans to help out where he can.
