Muskies looking to end season on high note

NEW CONCORD, Ohio – Saturday Muskingum (3-6, 2-6) will look to close out their football season with a win and assure themselves the best team record since 2011.
Coach Al Logan and the Fighting Muskies will be looking to beat the Wilmington Quakers (0-9, 0-8) for the eighth straight year. Former NFL defensive back Stacey Hairston’s Quakers statistically rank last in the Ohio Athletic Conference in points per game (12) and points allowed per game (56). However, 10th year head coach Al Logan says the Quakers have loads of individual talent on their team.
“Defensively up front their four kids up front we think are pretty good. We watch them on film against good teams in our conference and they get pressure on the quarterback and they are real active kids. And their linebackers are pretty good too,†said Logan.
Recent history between the Quakers and Muskies has seen some very close contests. The 2013 game went to overtime. In 2010 Muskingum eked out a 3-0 win. Logan is hoping they’ll be able to close out the 2016 season with a win for his 14 seniors.
“Close games seem to be the trend with [Wilmington]. They’re struggling but Stacey still has those guys playing pretty hard and doing a good job. They’ve been through a lot of players. They’ve had some kids injured just like us. Whoever does the best job preparing this week for Saturday will win,†said Logan.
Muskingum leads the all-time series 13-8. The game kicks off from Williams Stadium in Wilmington at 1:30 p.m.
