Zanesville City Council Recap

2016.11.14 City Council 1

ZANESVILLE, OHIO- Zanesville City Council met on Monday night for their first meeting of the month.

During the meeting an ordinance was proposed by council to transfer unused funds from a community development block grant that was received by the state.

Jay Bennett, Public Service and Community Development Director, said that the city had recommended to the state in 2015 to fund three different community organization projects for 2016, but one project failed to complete construction.

“One of the projects that was recommended was unable to successfully complete their activity,” said Bennett.  He said that the project was for a roof replacement in the city.  “The cost was more than what was originally anticipated so there had to be additional money provided by the agency and they were unable to make that pledge.”

Bennett said rather than give back the $32,000 to the state, they would put the money back into the city for other useful projects.

“We have an activity for emergency housing repairs, city-wide that was $37,000.  So we will add this $32,000 to it, making it a total of $69,000 available.”

Bennett said that they already have some housing repairs in motion and that this money will be very useful for the city.
