ZPD Identifies Man Set on Fire

The investigation into the homicide of a homeless man who was set on fire in Zanesville continues by police. Tuesday, Detective Sergeant Harry Taylor released the name of the victim. He is 62-year-old Leo Hayes of Zanesville.

Detective Taylor says so far “persons of interest” have been identified, but there are no suspects at this time. Police say on Saturday night around 10:30 officers were called to Central Presbyterian Church at 40 North 6th Street to investigate a person on fire. First responders found the victim on the side porch of the church engulfed in flames. The Licking County Coroner has ruled that Hayes died of blunt force trauma and then set on fire.
