Local basketball standouts sign National Letters of Intent

Two area girls basketball standouts inked National Letters of Intent this week, and the Ohio State Buckeyes officially added a state champion to their class of 2017.

Newark Lady Wildcat Leah Wingeier signed with the Division I Marshall Thundering Herd on Wednesday. The 6’4″ center helped Newark reach the D-I regional final as a junior.

Ridgewood Lady General guard Audrey Tingle signed with the Division II West Liberty Lady Hilltoppers on Monday. The first team All-Ohioan won co-East District player of the year while leading Ridgewood to the D-III regional final as a junior.

In the Licking County League, Newark Catholic golfer Hannah Luft has signed with Division II Ohio Dominican University. Luft helped the Green Wave win back-to-back LCL titles and back-to-back sectional crowns.

In men’s college hoops, Thad Matta’s Buckeyes officially added 6’9″ Westerville South senior center Kaleb Wesson to their family. Wesson and his older brother, Andre, led the Wildcats to a D-I state championship earlier this year. Andre Wesson is currently a freshman on Ohio State’s roster.

Hargrave Military Academy point guard Braxton Beverly also signed with the Scarlet and Gray.
