‘The District Health Advisory Council’ met for it’s Annual Report

Each year in March, the Ohio Revised Code requires the Health Department District to pull together the ‘District Health Advisory Council’ for an annual report.

This council is comprised of all of the Township Trustees, The Chair of each Board of Township Trustees from each Township, and all of the Village or City Mayors in Muskingum County and the County Commissioners. During the meeting the group is updated on the happenings at the health department.

"We’ll release our 2015 annual report and discuss that a little bit with them and then we have three topics that we want to talk to them about that are coming up in the horizon in 2016," said Corey Hamilton, Health Commissioner, Muskingum County.

The three topics that the council discussed Wednesday included Blood-borne Infection Disease Prevention Programs, Sewage Operation and Maintenance Program, and the Community Health Assessment.

"It’s just critical for us, the public health departments are really focused on improving the population health. We are really focusing our resources more on prevention and health promotion. So that the healthcare system really has less to do in the future," said Hamilton.

Hamilton said the good news about 2015 is the Health Department is in a very good financial state and they are able to keep their expenditures over their revenues and which allows them to plan better for the future and have a little savings as well.
