Ohio deer season now open

ZANESVILLE, Ohio-Â The deer gun season opened Monday in Ohio.
Hunters in Muskingum County and the rest of the state will be able to hunt until Sunday.
Dale Phillips, Owner of Phillips Meat Processing, said they had a lot of business Monday morning and expect to be busy for the rest of the week.
“We take any legal deer that has been checked in and we do the whole process right here,” said Phillips.
At Phillips Meat Processing they skin, cut, wrap and freeze the meat for hunters.
For those who just hunt for sport, Phillips Meat Processing also participates in the national Farmers and Hunters Feeding the Hungry program.
“You just bring a legally tagged deer in, we process it and send it to Christ’s Table,” said Phillips. “We sent quite a few this year and hopefully we’re going to send quite a few more.”
The national program pays shops to process deer and livestock that are donated by farmers and hunters. They then donate the meat to local feeding programs and ministries.
According to the Farmers and Hunters Feeding the Hungry website, one deer can provide roughly 200 meals.
