Newark Police Arrest Man Following Standoff

Newark Police arrest a local man after a standoff with police.

Authorities said Wednesday just before 7p.m. officers were attempting to arrest 41-year-old Nathan Martin, when he was seen near his home at 279 Buckingham Street.

When Martin saw officers he entered his home and barricaded himself inside, along with his elderly mother.

Officers attempted to contact Martin with no success, until he called 911 and spoke with a Newark Police Crisis Negotiator.

Martin eventually surrendered to police and was taken into custody by the Newark Police Special Operation Group without incident.

His mother was found safe inside the home. Martin was arrested on an outstanding warrant for felony domestic violence and may face further charges.
