The 1st Annual Delta Color 5k

Nearly 300 people participated in the 1st Annual Delta Color 5k race Saturday morning following charges made against the sorority’s former member in the death of her newborn baby.
The Delta Gamma Theta Sorority and Muskingum University Greeks hosted the race to raise awareness for the Safe Haven Laws. The Delta Gamma Theta’s newly appointed President said it’s important to their sorority to bring awareness to this issue.
“It happened, and it’s sad to say that it does happen but, we just want as much awareness as possible so it doesn’t happen again. It could happen again we hope not but, just that’s our goal and our goal is to do this race annually now,” said Lauren Strebel, President, Delta Gamma Theta.
The Safe Haven Law is in place to prevent babies from being abandoned at places where they may come to harm. Strebel said leading up to the 5k Awareness Race it has been tough on the girls, but it has made their sisterly bond even stronger.
“It’s been hard but, we definitely come together. We have this saying, ‘We Are One’ and we have become one,” said Strebel.
Strebel said if she could provide any advice to a future sorority sister going through a similar situation, she would tell them they’re not alone and there are different options available.
