Muskingum County Celebrates National Public Health Week

Public Health

The Zanesville-Muskingum County Health Department is taking steps to improve public health in our community.

This week marks National Public Health Week, a time to recognize the contributions of public health and highlight issues that are important to protecting public health. To ensure public health safety in Muskingum County, the health department provides immunizations, mosquito control, public health nursing, and other programs.

“We are promoting public health by we have health educators that go out and promote physical fitness, nutrition, education, and tobacco prevention, and we also have sanitarians and health inspectors that protect people from foodborne illnesses and waterborne illnesses,” said Jennifer Heistand, Public Information Officer at ZMCHD.

In conjunction with National Public Health Week, the health department just wrapped up its annual Health Fair at Colony Square Mall over the weekend, where free screenings and demonstrations were provided to the public. The health department is also encouraging folks in the community to take action in protecting public health.

“Try to eat in moderation, if you’ve been thinking about going to start some physical activity, get out and go walking, or talk to your doctor about that, just small steps toward improving your overall health,” Heistand said.

The health department also offers weekly meetings to address health needs in the community. To participate, contact (740) 454-9741.
