ZANESVILLE, Ohio- This week is National Public Telecommunication Week.

Muskingum County is showcasing the life saving job dispatchers do every day and night. Sheriff Matt Lutz described dispatch as the most vital part of the sheriff’s office. Dispatchers are responsible for 911 calls, complaints, and dispatching law enforcement personnel.

“This is where the calls start. And if we don’t get a good starting point in law enforcement or in an emergency type run it’s very hard to over come that bad start,” Muskingum County Sheriff Matt Lutz.

Sheriff Lutz began his career as a public servant in dispatch back in 1989. So he understands first hand what the job entails.

“In dispatch it’s kind of an unique adventure, because you never know what you are going to face each day you come to work. So they have to really be prepared to face those challenges everyday. One of the unique traits that all of our dispatchers have is the compassion that they show for the job,” said Lutz.

Lutz said dispatch is a tough job. And National Public Telecommunication Week helps recognize the good work and hard job that dispatchers have.
