ZHS Robotics Team Heads to Louisville, KY for World Competition

Some students at Zanesville High School are gearing up for the VEX Robotics World Competition.

Nearly 5,000 students from more than 25 different countries will attend the competition. The nine-member team along with their teacher and team adviser Rick Mohler are leaving for the tournament Wednesday morning from the school at 8 a.m.

“All year we work on the same robot and we’ve changed ours multiple times and it has to play games sort of like basketball. Four robots play the game at a time and we are putting the finishing touches on our right now and hopefully we’ll be ready to compete by tomorrow,” said Alex Pinson.

Austin Ruff said over the last two weeks the team has dedicated several hours preparing for the tournament. He said the team goal is to make it to the elimination rounds because it will be the first time for the school.

“It’ll feel great, it’ll make us feel accomplished that we put so much time and effort into this robot, it’ll be great,” said Austin Ruff. “Between everybody, we’ve probably put in 120 hours in the past two weeks and a few of us has put in as much as that if not more.”
