Keeping Pets Safe in Cold Weather
Temperatures this week are forecasted to be in the teens and even lower.
Experts say that now is a good time to take the proper precautions for our four legged family members and offers some tips.
“Check your outside boxes if you have any animals that stay outside,” said Animal Shelter Executive Director Jody Murray. “If you need any supplies as far as a heated water bowl, straw, blankets now is the time to get those because there’s going to be a big rush in a couple of days. So the first thing is planning and preparation.”
Murray said there are key things to remember when combating cold weather to keep pets safe.
“Make sure they have shelter that’s maybe out of the wind out of the weather. If snow and rain are coming down you want to make sure that they have dry food. Frozen water won’t do them any good so heated water bowls are a good thing to invest in,” suggested Murray.
If temperatures drop too low Murray recommends bringing pets indoors.
