Zanesville High School Robotics Team Receives the ‘Amaze Award’

The Zanesville High School Robotics Team came home from a Worlds competition where they amazed the judges.

The robotics team competed last week in the 2016 VEX Worlds Robotics Competition High School Division and received the ‘amaze award’ which is presented to a team that has a solid mechanical design and excellent teamwork and interview quality. Zanesville High School Robotics Team Member, Logan Dinan, said he had a lot of fun and that one of the nice aspects to the Worlds is learning about other cultures.

“One of the cool things about the Worlds competition is there’s teams from every continent of the world,” said Dinan. “People from just everywhere speaking different languages and different cultures. You get to learn a lot about other cultures other than just America.”

Vex Robotics designs a new game each year for every Worlds Competition and announces the game after the previous worlds competition is finished. The Zanesville Robotics Team works year-round first with brain-storming, then designing, and the last couple of months are focused on the building. Dinan said that the team started brain-storming as soon as the 2017 game designs were released.

“Actually, as soon as the game was given out we started thinking of designs,” said Dinan “We just got a big compilation of all those things. We put them into a google doc. just to get a heads up or heads start on our design notebook for this year. ”

Next years Worlds Competition will be named ‘Starstruck’ and the students will need to make a robot that can get stars over a divider and lift itself up on a pole.
